A Transformed Life began in 2005 as a small counseling and consulting practice—A Transformed Life, LLC—founded by L. Paul Bernard, a licensed professional counselor, educator, trauma specialist, and ministry leader. What began as a private clinical service soon “transformed” into a Christ-centered movement, born from a deep conviction: that no life is too broken to be restored by the power of God’s truth, grace, and love.

That conviction was shaped early in Paul’s life. As the biological son of foster parents who opened their home to over 100 foster children, he witnessed firsthand the pain, resilience, and potential of youth navigating loss, trauma, and transition. That lived experience became the foundation for a life committed to restoration—both professionally and spiritually.

Guided by Romans 12:2, we help equip individuals to be “transformed by the renewing of their minds”—not conformed to their pain, past, or problems. Over two decades, A Transformed Life has grown from one-on-one clinical care to a holistic, trauma-informed ministry model, integrating faith-based counseling, spiritual formation, discipleship, and life skills training. Today, that mission includes a strategic expansion of services to support individuals and families impacted by the foster care and dependency system, as well as ministry leaders and frontline service providers who are often carrying the hidden burdens of trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

Today, we are building a team of licensed professionals, educators, and ministers, united by faith, compassion, and a commitment to healing. Through residential care, retreats, transitional housing, therapeutic outdoor environments, and specialized services for foster youth and families, we will create transformative opportunities where authentic change can take root—and lives can be rebuilt on a foundation of truth, identity, and purpose.

What began as one man’s calling has transformed into becoming a movement of restoration and renewal—for such a time as this.
